What is The Ideal Pipe Coating Application Process

The advantages of pipe coating are many. From being a leakage-sealing component to a robust protective layer, anti-corrosion barrier, chemical-resistant safety substance, and more, these coatings support pipelines in multiple ways. They not only increase the life of pipes to over 25 years but also prove to be an economic solution with less repair and maintenance.

It is due to this reason, these high-quality coatings find application in

  • Oil and gas industries
  • Water treatment plants
  • Wastewater treatment plants
  • Residential projects
  • Marine industry
  • Chemical processing industry,
  • Food and beverage industry, and others.

While you decide to opt for pipe coatings, remember to source them from a reliable manufacturer and supplier. IWL India is one of the leading suppliers of anti-corrosion pipe coatings in India that offers a wide range of coatings for projects of different scales.

However, before you make a choice for coatings and continue with its application, get an idea about the entire application process. The following steps will help you understand the entire coating process.

Pipe Coating Application Process

The following are the essential steps in the application of coatings on pipelines:

  • Prepare the pipe for the coating. For this, protect the ends of the pipe using end caps and then clean the pipe.
  • Next, inspect the pipe visually. Here you must check the pipe number, heat number, length, thickness, pipe diameter, and any kind of dents, damages, gauges, etc.
  • In the next step, preheat the pipe. Typically, the pipes are preheated are 200 degree Celsius. The preheating is done using an induction coil or, alternatively, a gas oven.
  • Once the pipe is preheated, apply a uniform layer of coal tar epoxy on the pipe. The epoxy works as a primary layer on the pipe that can create a bond between the pipe and the coating.
  • After the coating gets completed, check the temperature of exterior coatings such as coal tar enamel, adhesive coating/film, PE film, etc.
  • Lastly, cool down the pipes in the cooling tunnel. Keep inspecting it visually and also check the temperature of cooling water, any sort of coating damage, thickness, and other parameters.

Conclusion

It is important to consider the typically performed pipe coating steps before you invest in any type of coating from any manufacturer. This will boost your knowledge being a consumer and help you make informed decisions. If you want to know about the coating application or looking to buy them, visit IWL India today.
